Residential Storm Debris
Storm debris from the October Nor'Easter that is less than four-inches (4") in diameter may be brought to the Recycling Center free-of-charge by local residents.
The Recycling Center is located off Breakneck Road and is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. until 2:45 p.m.
Pay-As-You-Throw (PAYT) TRASH BAG Program
Starts October 1st, 2011. Bags will be available the week of September 26th at local stores.
(MickNuck's, Shaw's, Stop & Shop, Fred's & others).
Rolls of five (30 gallon) bags will cost $5. Smaller bags will be available by the second week in October (5 15 gal for $2.50)
All trash (non-recyclables) must be in official Town of Sturbridge PAYT bags. The Recycling program will remain the same at no charge (1 sticker to each household - current stickers good through April 15th 2012).
Mosquito Awareness and Precautions:
- Be aware of peak mosquito hours from dawn to dusk
- Clothing can help reduce mosquito bites wearing long sleeves, long pants and socks can keep mosquitos away from the skin
- Apply insect repellent when outdoors use a repellent with DEET
DEET products should not be used on infants under 2 months of age and should be used in concentration of 30% or less on older children
oil of lemon eucalyptus should not be used on children under three years of age
- Drain standing water around your home
- Install and repair all window and door screens

MOSQUITO SPRAYING HAS BEEN EXTENDED INTO SEPTEMBER

MOSQUITO SPRAYING PESTICIDE EXCLUSION INFORMATION -333CMR: Pesticide Board
Designations for exclusions my be made by supplying the clerk of the municipality in which such lands lie with a certified letter providing the name, address and telephone number (if any), names of all abutters, and defining programs from which exclusion is requested. Designations may be made prior to March 1 of each year and shall be effective from April 1 of that year to March 31 of the following year.(333CMR13.03, paragraphs 1b&1c)
Ground Applications: The person requesting exclusion shall mark the boundries or areas to be excluded at least every 50 feet with orange surveyor's tape or another Department-approved marking device which clearly defines the area of exclusion. These markings shall be made known to the Contracting Entity, who shall be responsible fror communicating the details of their marking to those who will carry out the application. Stickers can be renewed at the BOH office at the Center Office Building 301 Main Street daily from 9:30am -12:30 pm
Stickers also may be obtained by mailing an application with a copy of your registration with a self adressed envelope to the Board of Health 301 Main Street, Sturbridge, MA 01566

White and Gold Stickers
- Can be obtained by mailing in (car registration and form ) with a stamped addressed envelope
- Or at the Board of Health office M - F 9:30 - 12:30
- Or at the Recycling Center, Saturdays thru the Month of April
