Charter Review Committee Begins Work: Seeks Public Input
STURBRIDGE – The Town of Sturbridge has a Board of Selectmen / Open Town Meeting form of government that was established by the Sturbridge Home Rule Charter. The Charter is similar to a state or federal constitution, which, after adoption, defined the framework of our Town's government.
The Charter requires that a Charter Review Committee be formed every five years to review and suggest revisions to the Charter. The Committee hopes to make the Charter as workable and clear a document as possible so that our local government is accessible, effective and efficient. Therefore, the 2010 Charter Review Committee is seeking suggested revisions to the Charter.
To ensure that suggested revisions are consistent with the scope of the Charter and the Committee's powers, please review the Charter here and then submit your comments in writing to the Committee at charter@town.sturbridge.ma.us by January 10, 2011.
Thank you in advance for your assistance and participation.
