Walmart Fire Safety Day 2009
On Saturday, May 16th 2009 the Sturbridge Fire Department along with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Forest Fire Control in conjunction with Sturbridge Wal-Mart held a Fire Safety Day. Both departments brought several pieces of fire apparatus to demonstrate the different aspects of firefighting.
There were vehicle extrication demonstrations to highlight some of the specialized tools the departments may use for accidents on the local highways. The vehicles used were provided by Sturbridge Service Center who was also on hand to show the capabilities of their new heavy wrecker.
The District 7 Fire Safety Trailer was on hand. This was used to teach children what to do if they should encounter a smoke filled environment at home. The trailer is set up with a living room, bedroom, and kitchen where the children practice getting out of the trailer as if they were in their own home using safe theatrical smoke.
