The primary mission of the Sturbridge Fire Department is to the protection of life and
property from fire and other disasters or emergencies. Included within this mission are a
number of other major tactical activities:
Providing rescues and or medical response in case of fire, accident, natural disaster, or
Maintaining a regular routine of fire prevention activities, including inspection of town
Educating citizens of the Town Of Sturbridge in prevention activities, and techniques.
Ensuring ongoing training and readiness of members of the department.
Maintaining the property, equipment and other assets assigned to the department.
Investigating the causes of fire with an aim to prevent future recurrences.

FIREFIGHTER / PARAMEDIC
The Town of Sturbridge, MA is accepting applications for the position of full-time fire-fighter / paramedic. The Department is looking to fill one current vacancy. The minimum qualifications include high school diploma or equivalent and one year of certification as a National Registry EMT – Paramedic. Additionally it is preferred that the candidate will be currently certified as a Firefighter I/II. If not, successful completion of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s recruit program and certification as a firefighter I/II will be mandatory for continued employment.
Starting salary per the current Collective Bargaining Agreement is $55,461.00 annually. Other benefits include paid vacation, sick time, uniform allowance, training reimbursement, and medical/dental insurance.
Potential candidates will be subject to an oral interview, extensive background check, medical physical and psychological examinations, and a Physical Ability Test. Selected candidates will be required to possess, or obtain a Massachusetts Driver’s license, and must reside within 15 miles of the Town of Sturbridge or meet this requirement within 6 months of hire.

The Sturbridge Fire Department wishes to remind residents and realtors that a smoke detector inspection must be conducted prior to the sale of any property.
After you have a closing date:
Contact the Sturbridg Fire Department to schedule an inspection of your smoke
and carbon monoxide detectors right away. Do not wait until the last minute!
Please contact the department at least ten (10) business days prior
to the closing date to schedule your inspection.
