STORYTIME REGISTRATION SPRING 2011

Our story times are filled with great books, songs, finger rhymes, puppetry, and crafts and are designed to promote emerging literacy skills, social development, and a lifelong love of reading.  Age groups are: Early Literacy and Fun (ELF) for 9-18 months (THURS 10:45 AM); SPRITES: 18-30 months (TUES 10:45 AM): PIXIES: 2.5 to 4.5 years (FRI 10:45 AM) and GNOMES: 4.5 to 6 years (TUES 1:30PM)

Register beginning 01/31/11 through 2/14/11 at the following link http://iread.evanced.info/sturbridge/sr/homepage.asp, or stop by or give us a call to register your children.  Contact the library at 508/347-2512 with any questions.

The 6 week winter session will run from the week of March 7 through the week of May 9.
Classes will be limited in order to maintain a high quality program your family will enjoy. Selections will be made by random lottery.

Story Time Registration and Guidelines

The goal of the Joshua Hyde Library children’s story times is to introduce, explore, and cultivate a love of learning and literacy.  We promote early literacy and social skills programming that will be fun, memorable, and meaningful.
In the interest of fairness to all families of Sturbridge and our neighboring communities, participation for the Joshua Hyde Library’s children’s programs will be decided by lottery.
•       Registration will be open for two weeks or longer.  Registration forms will be available at the library during open hours, or you can register online at www.sturbridgelibrary.org.
•       Parents/guardians are responsible for checking on lottery results.  They will be posted on the library’s web page.  You may also call or visit the library.
•       All children who are not selected by lottery will be placed on a waiting list and contacted should an opening become available.
•       Please be considerate of other families.  Do not register if you cannot regularly attend these programs.
•       Do not force your child to attend story time.  They should be emotionally and behaviorally ready to participate.  Story time should be a positive experience for them.

The following rules apply to story time registration:
•       Sturbridge residents will be given priority.
•       Each child will need to be registered separately; one registration per child per lottery.
•       Each child can only be registered for one program.
Once Story Times begin, please keep in mind:
•       Promptness is greatly appreciated.  Interruptions can upset some children’s mood and concentration.
•       Toys and food are not allowed during story time.
•       Each story time involves age-appropriate activities.  Avoid bringing siblings whenever possible.
•       Please participate!  Your child IS learning by watching you! Sing and play along with us!  Otherwise, s/he may not fully enjoy themselves.
•       Do not carry on personal conversations during story time.  Turn off your cell phones, as well.  Again, your child is learning social skills (or lack thereof) by watching and imitating your behavior.  Give your child your undivided attention and enjoy this special one-on-one time!
•       If your child needs a break during story time to settle themselves, feel free to leave the area and return when ready.
Weather Policy: If Sturbridge schools are closed, we will not be conducting story times.  Please call the library to check on evening or weekend events.
Attendance Policy: If your family is unable to attend a scheduled story time, you must call the library (508/347-2512) to inform us of your absence.  If your child has two or more unexplained absences, he or she will be withdrawn from the program.  A child on the waiting list will then be invited to join the group.
