The Joshua Hyde Public Library houses materials relating to the history of Sturbridge, including the lives and careers of individuals who have lived here or have directly affected the community's development.
The local history collection presently contains:
--General histories of Sturbridge, along with historical information regarding culture, events, buildings, businesses, organizations, government and people.
--Genealogies and information regarding Sturbridge and area familiies, although genealogy is not a primary focus of the collection.
-- Some historical maps.
--Town, school and finance committee reports.
-- Materials relating to the surrounding towns of Holland, Wales, Brimfield, the Brookfields, and Charlton.
-- Histories of Massachusetts and prominent Massachusetts people.
--Some histories of other New England states.
Materials from this collection do not circulate.
Library staff will be happy to assist patrons in using any materials from the Local History area.
