Activities Descriptions
SENIOR CENTER ACTIVITIES

The Sturbridge Senior Center offers a variety of services and activities on a regular monthly schedule.  Check out the list below for something that will interest you. Some programs are offered in multiple week cycles.  Call for the next starting date for these programs.

Exercise Class.-  M,W,F, 9-10 a.m.(on-going) Exercises geared toward seniors and led by Jen Mercier professional fitness instructor.  Fee = $15/yr. seniors age 55 and over; $25/yr. age 54 and under.
Arthritis Exercise Class – W, 10:15 – 11:15 a.m.  Exercises that follow the guidelines of the PACE (People With Arthritis Can Exercise) program.  Led by Jen Mercier, PACE certified instructor.  Free.
Chi Kung – T, 8-9 a.m.  (8-wk. cycles) A form of Tai Chi led by David Masera, certified instructor.  Fee= $25 if paid the week prior to the beginning of the next 8-week cycle.  Drop in fee is $6 per session.
Yoga Classes – M, 1-2 p.m. (8-wk. cycles) $35/session.  Certified Yoga instructor, Linda Davis, leads this class to help participants gain flexibility, strength, balance and well-being.
Fit for Life Exercise Class –M, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. and Th 12:15 to 1:15.  Less strenuous exercise led by certified fitness instructor, Eva Pittsinger.  This class includes chair exercises. Free will donation for each class.
TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) F, 10:30-11:30 a.m. (on-going) An international weight loss support group. A participant-run program.  Fee=$1/wk.
SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) 4rd W, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.  A state-wide, unbiased medical insurance counseling service provided by highly trained volunteers.  Call for an appointment.
Watercolor Studio – F, 1-3 p.m. An informal group that enjoys painting and helping each other become better painters
Cribbage – T, 1-3:30 p.m.  An informal group that enjoys the game and a good time.
Lending Library – open – There are many books and movies available to be borrowed.
Computers – open -  Computers are available for seniors to use at the Center.
Pool Table – open -  Pool table is available for seniors to use at the Center.
Movies – T or W, 12:30 p.m.  Check the calendar or call for dates and titles.  We have a big screen and projector
S.A.L.T. – 3rd Th, 1:00 p.m.  The Sturbridge Police work with the senior community in ways that will make seniors feel safe and secure.
Senior Card Project – 4th T, 12:30-2:00 p.m.  Learn the craft of stamping at the same time you provide a service.  The greeting cards that are made are sent to Sturbridge seniors on their 70th, 80th, and 90+ birthdays.
00 p.m. Lunch.  Ellie, from the Joshua Hyde Library, gives a review of a variety of books from the Library which can be borrowed on-the-spot.
Wii, open – An interactive/virtual computer program that includes bowling, tennis, ping pong, golf, and other games.  Great exercise and fun.
Treadmill – open – A commercial quality treadmill.
Ayredyne Bike - A commercial quality exercise bike.
Recumbent Bicycle - open - A commercial quality bike
Line Dancing - M, 1 - 3 p.m.  Instructor Forty Arroyo.  Six week cycles - $30/$35.  Drop in $6/7.
