On-Call Firefighter – Entry Level
The Town of Sturbridge Fire Department is currently accepting applications to create a hiring list for the position of On-Call Firefighter. On-call members fulfill a role as a call back member, and also may participate in the station coverage shift program dependent upon certification and staffing needs.
Minimum requirements: 18 years of age at time of application, High School Diploma or GED, and valid Massachusetts driver’s license with no serious violation history. Must reside in the Town of Sturbridge or a bordering community.
Preferred requirements: Certified Firefighter I/II, or proof of completion of an approved NFPA 1001/1002 Firefighter Program or be able to complete the Mass Call/Volunteer Fire Academy within 2 years of date of hire. Emergency Medical Technician Basic/Advanced/Paramedic (preferred). HAZ-MAT Operational level, NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700. Must be able to attend regularly scheduled monthly training sessions, be available to respond for emergency incidents at various hours, and maintain other annual minimum attendance requirements.
Starting hourly pay range is $15.33 to $20.50, DOQ. Uniform allowance and other potential benefits are available as defined within the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Final selection and appointment will be at the discretion of the Town Administrator, with approval of the Board of Selectmen.
Successful applicants will be subject to an extensive criminal background check, drug screening, and medical physical examination.
